SYSA - Softball FAQS

  1. "How are players placed on teams?"
Placement on teams is based on age, schools, neighborhoods, and "first come - first served". Returning players receive priority until April 20th.
  2. "Can my child play up or down from their age group?"
Yes, they may play UP if the parent and coach feel the child can perform safely with the older age group. No play downs permitted.
  3. "When will I hear from someone after I register?"
You will receive a call from your coach. If you have not received one by June 1, please give us a call at 536-1800 and ask for the softball coordinator
  4. "What about practice?"
Practice location, time, and frequency are determined by your child's coach.

  1. "What are the age groups?"
    • Division 1 – 7-8 year olds
    • Division 2 – 9-10 year olds
    • Division 3 – 11-12 year olds
    • Division 4 – 13-14 year olds
    • Division 5 – 15-16 year olds
    • Division 6 – 5-6 year olds

Age of the player on December 31st of the playing year determines playing age. For example, if your child is turning 11 on Jan 01, they would still be required to play in Division 2 for 10 year old players.

  1. "When does the season start?"
Season begins the middle of June and concludes the end of July.
  2. "When will my child play their games?"
Teams play 2 games per week. Occasionally, bye situations occur. Start time for the games is 6:00 PM with no new inning starting after 8:00 PM.
  3. "Do you need coaches or volunteers?"
Yes. In a program of this magnitude, there is always a need for volunteers. If you desire to coach or volunteer, e-mail the Softball Coordinator. Returning Coaches have priority in coaching their returning team.
  4. "Will my child get to play every game?"
If your child attends practice regularly and is not a disruption to the team, each child is scheduled to play at least 3 innings of every 7 inning game.
  5. "Is there a volunteer committee that oversees softball?"
Yes. For information on how to join or become involved, please go to our Volunteer Page.
