Our History
In the spring of 1965 Spokane Junior Football was created and
play began a year later with 284 boys. This opened the door for
a sports organization unlike any other in its contribution to
the youth of the community.
In 1976 the organization changed its name to Spokane Youth
Sports Association and added Spokane Junior Soccer with 25
teams. Participation swelled from about 500 boys and girls to
more than 3,000 in just three years.
In 1978 a Spokane Junior Softball program was added for girls
age 6, 7 and 8. It then expanded into three upper age groups
that enhanced those skills. More than 1,100 girls play softball
today. |
|
| Spokane Junior
Baseball was added in 1981. It was a varied program for players
age 6 to 15 which offered basic skills and participation in
regional competition. It has grown from 150 participants to more
than 3,000. |
|
Our organization now involves more
than 8,000 boys and girls participating in soccer, baseball,
softball, football, track and cross country. Skills are taught
at various ages, and youth leagues start at age 5 and go up to
age 18. Almost all families in the Spokane area have been
touched by some SYSA activity, and they have contributed much in
return through their generous involvement. |

Our Mission:
To provide all children in the greater Spokane area with the
opportunity to participate in sports activities. |
| |
Our Purpose:
To implant youth with good sportsmanship and ideals for the
molding of good citizens. The molding of future citizens is of
prime importance where as attainment of exceptional skill or
winning games is secondary
Our Future:
SYSA's future is bright. We continue to look to add new sports
programs and create partnerships that fulfill our mission
statement and purpose. |
